Most of us are familiar with the name of Booker T. Washington, but how much do you really know about him? In this presentation, we look at the life of Booker T. Washington and trace his journey from being a slave to being the most influential African-American in America in the early 1900s.
We will learn how he transformed a chicken house in Alabama into Tuskegee University, explore the Atlanta Compromise Speech of 1895, investigate why he caused a national outrage from white Southerners when he accepted an invitation to dine at the White House and identify the views other African-American leaders of that era had about Booker T. Washington. We will also explore his views and actions in regards to improving agriculture and education in the south.
